Biography
Jacopo Uberti is a conservator and restorer specialized in the preservation of musical, scientific, and technical instruments. With extensive experience in the functional restoration of historical plucked instruments from the seventeenth to the twentieth centuries, and through collaborations with leading Italian luthiers, restorers, and collectors, he graduated with top marks in Conservation and Restoration of Musical, Scientific, and Technical Instruments from the University of Pavia. During his studies, he deepened his expertise in photogrammetric surveying and 3D modelling applied to conservation, developing an integrated approach combining hands-on craftsmanship, theoretical knowledge, and digital methodologies. For his master’s thesis, he carried out a conservation intervention on a rare Hamburger Cithrinchen housed at the Rijksmuseum in Amsterdam (inv. BK-NM-11430-14), focusing on the morphological reconstruction and original structural layout of the instrument, and producing a detailed three-dimensional model to support its scientific analysis and cultural enhancement. He is currently pursuing a PhD on the application of digital surveying and structural analysis to historical keyboard instruments, aiming to enhance the understanding of their mechanical behaviour and contribute to the development of scientific protocols for their conservation and assessment.
